Announcement

The 2:nd international conference on FUTURE URBAN TRANSPORT, organised by Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF), will be held in Göteborg, Sweden on 22-24 September 2003 (Academic Workshop on 21 September). This conference is a contribution to the ongoing global discussion on the topic of urban transport development.

As in the first conference in 2000, the main theme of the conference is how to cope with the complexity of urban transport development. The focus will be both on the historical background, on the diversity and complexity of present problems, and on the outcome (success or failure) of attempts to promote positive future development in urban environments around the world. The conference is designed to be a meeting place and discussion forum for analysts and actors. The process of change and its determining factors will be a major theme of the presentations and discussions. The role of leadership in the development process will be a key issue. An active audience is an important part of the conference, and time is reserved for discussions after the presentations under the leadership of the moderators. One session is dedicated exclusively to such discussions. The final session, suggestions and ideas will be aired for new initiatives and future research directions within FUTURE URBAN TRANSPORT.

The conference will be held at the Göteborg Convention Centre (Svenska Mässan) in the city centre of Göteborg, just 25 min away from Landvetter International Airport.
